“A GRID is more than meets the eye. It’s what you want it to be.” Peter J. Lassen
GRID is Danish design by Danish designer Peter J. Lassen. The idea behind the modular GRID system arose in 2004 from Peter J. Lassen’s ambition to design an interior system with unprecedented adaptability for the user, be it commercial or artistic. This resulted in a modular and flexible interior system with roots in the Danish design tradition, that is a visual expression without compromising functionality.
Art was also an inspiration for Peter J. Lassen, who found that, “art inspires, gives us energy and sets us free.” It is this sense of freedom, experience and movement, which he aspires to give the users of GRID. As Peter J. Lassen stated, “Good art is characterised by never fully revealing itself – there is always another layer, another interpretation – we never become tired of art or nature because there is always another angle.” This inspiration is evident in GRID’s modularity, durability and adaptability.
Peter J. Lassen (1930-2019), was also the founder of Danish design icon Montana Furniture, known for its shelving system and colour scheme. Peter J. Lassen has been working in the furniture industry since 1954. During his time as managing director of the furniture producer Fritz Hansen (1955-1978), he cooperated with renowned Danish architects such as Arne Jacobsen, Jørn Utzon, Piet Hein and Verner Panton. Their influence can be seen in the modern, clear and minimalist lines of his designs.
